For more information, visit www.bma-milwauk [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div  class="paragraph" style=" text-align: left; ">On April 14, Carl Schrank, a student advisor at Marquette University, and Tom Graybill of Tri-Marq Communications presented "The Schmooze Effect," the art of networking.<div><br></div><div>Graybill is also co-chair of University Outreach for the Business Marketing Association (BMA). BMA hosts many networking events for students and business professionals and features student resources on its Web site. For more information, visit www.bma-milwaukee.org.</div><div><br></div><div>Carl Schrank has been a student advisor at Marquette for nine years after teaching full-time for 11 years. His goal when presenting information on networking is to help students and professionals recognize the importance of coming away with a good idea from whatever situation they find themselves in, event when they've encountered that situation or topic many times.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Schmoozing helps people recognize trends, learn about their field and find job leads. He iterated that who you know may be important, but it's also who knows about you that makes the equation more complete.</div><div><br></div><div>The most important schmooze tools are research, charm and intelligence, always carrying a pen or a pencil (you never know when you'll need one!) and to create personal business cards to easily relay your information and set yourself apart from others in your field. ">  At our most recent meeting on April 7, Timothy Blair, vice president of marketing and communications for IBM, gave PRSSA a preview of how his company took their social media strategy from experimentation to implementation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Blair is a proud Marquette University alumnus who graduated with a degree in international affairs in 1991.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>He is also widely known for his Marquette basketball blog &lsquo;Cracked Sidewalks.&rsquo;<br /><br />  In his presentation to PRSSA, Blair emphasized the importance of trust and personal responsibility in all relationships.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>To that point, he discussed the recognition and importance of empowering everyone.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>The success IBM has seen was a result of laying out a plan and determining the exact value social media had the potential to add to their company.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span><br /><br />  Blair also served as the morning keynote speaker for the PR + Social Media Summit held at Marquette on April 8.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>Hundreds of public relations practitioners and students had the opportunity to hear experts in the field share their experiences on how new media can be effectively used to a business&rsquo; Cision is a web-based system that enables PR professionals to research and reach out to media contacts locally, regionally and internationally.&nbsp;</font>&nbsp;<br /><br /><br /><font size="3">Amanda has served as a Senior Account Executive with Branigan Communications for four years.&nbsp; She began her professional career with Branigan after graduating from UW-Oshkosh with degrees in Marketing and French.&nbsp; Over the past four years, she has become an &ldquo;expert&rdquo; in utilizing Cision to its fullest capacity and has helped Branigan grow its PR successes.&nbsp;</font>&nbsp;<br /><br /><br /><font size="3">Amanda demonstrated Cision&rsquo;s ability to search in small and major niche publications, broadcast and radio outlets, trade journals, social media outlets, and international outlets. As the PR manager, he works with the rest of the public relations staff to prepare the media guide, and write press releases and daily e-mails. [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div  class="paragraph" style=" text-align: left; ">On March 10, Adam Rose, PR Manager for the Milwaukee Bucks, came to speak to PRSSA about the ins and outs of sports PR, a topic that seems in interest many of our members.<div><br></div><div>Adam is in his third year working with the Bucks and this is his first year as PR manager. As the PR manager, he works with the rest of the public relations staff to prepare the media guide, and write press releases and daily e-mails.</div><div><br></div><div>On game days, he prepares prep notes, organizes locker room interviews, communicates with Bucks and the opposing team's media, and focuses on pre- and post game work, which constitutes the bulk of his job on game nights.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Adam emphasized that there are no typical days in his job, but that is part of the reason why he enjoys it so much. Their story was fun and their insights about the wonderful world of PR were even better.Mary Mocarski, project manager at Johnson Controls, and Lori Richards, Vice President of Mueller Communications, met as blind roommates in McCormick Hall. Each woman spoke to the importance of internships and gaining hands-on PR experience, shari [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div  class="paragraph" style=" text-align: left; ">We had an exciting and informative meeting tonight with two 2002 Marquette grads as presenters. Their story was fun and their insights about the wonderful world of PR were even better.<br /><br /><br />Mary Mocarski, project manager at Johnson Controls, and Lori Richards, Vice President of Mueller Communications, met as blind roommates in McCormick Hall. Each woman spoke to the importance of internships and gaining hands-on PR experience, sharing stories about the internships they held while students here.&nbsp;<br /><br /><br />There presentation gave an insightful comparison between the agency and corporate PR worlds, and also explored the differences between hyperlocal and global companies.&nbsp;<br /><br /><br />Although they both have very successful careers, they each gave an insight into what they wish they could have accomplished.
